PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Break/Fix Technicians at Verizon were having to use 4 different web applications to perform their job duties. I was tasked as the lead designer to bring all 4 functionalities into one responsive application. Now, the Break/Fix Technicians would only need one application to monitor servers around the world.

PROJECT GOALS

Create a powerful application that combines 4 functionalities of previous applications into one so the job of a Break/Fix Technician is more stream-lined.

RESEARCH ACCOMPLISHMENTS

User Research: Interviewed Break/Fix Technicians who use the current 4 applications on a daily basis, and train users how to use the application. Interviewed developers to get a better understanding of its functionalities and what they would like to see modified in the current system.

Stakeholder Interviews: Interviewed the senior manager to determine the core functionalities and requirements.

ROLES

User experience, interaction design, user interface design.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

For the final project for my UX certification, each team was tasked to create an app for consumers.
ShopPal Features:

  • Displays coupon offers and deals from
    shops in your neighborhood
  • Display deals by category type, by store
brand, and by map (with additional option
    for 360° augmented reality view).
Additionally refine and sort the results by
    discount value, distance, and price.
  • Offers additional conveniences such as
    notifications, price comparison and
    tracking, and a customizable interface.

PROJECT GOAL

Create an app to help consumers find the best deals in their local area.

RESEARCH ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Market Research: Anywhere between 40% and 80% of all Americans use coupons
regularly.* 42% preferred $$ off followed by % off coming in 2nd.
Competitor Research: Shopular, Honey, The Krazy Coupon Lady, Coupons.com,
RetailMeNot, Groupon, LivingSocial, ShopKick, BuyVia, Flipp,
ShopSavvy
Consumer Research: 75% of value shoppers named clothing as the item they’re most likely to buy at
discount retailers, followed by groceries (71%), home decor and furnishings
(62%), personal care and beauty products (60%) and electronics (52%)**

DESIGN ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Stakeholder & Empathy Maps:

  • Anyone with who spends money, small businesses who post their offers on
platforms such as facebook and Instagram, large chain retailers
  • How do I save money? I don’t want to clip coupons
  • How can I get the lowest price? I forgot the coupon at home

Personas & Extreme Users:

  • Chrystal, married female, 47 – Suburban mom caring for her family, coupon user
  • Alex, female, 28 – banker saving for her future, experienced bargain hunter
  • Steve, single male, 67 – retired grandfather with fixed income and low expenses
  • Bob, male, 30 – health conscious Professional, saving to buy a ring to propose

persona
Journey Maps & User Interviews:

  • Which app do you currently use for deals and offers?
  • What features do you use frequently?
  • How do you figure you are getting the right value for your money?

Epics and User Stories:

  • We discussed how each story would tie
back to feature a user might want to use.
  • Each Product Feature would tie back
    to an Epic
  • Each Story would tie back to an Epic

Work Flows:

  • Epics and User Stories were used to create high level workflows.
  • High level workflows helped identify gaps and overlaps and determine final features.

Sketches and Wireframes:

  • We used sketches to visualize each view state, function and user flow before moving to wireframes and prototypes.
  • Re-iterations and modifications were easiest to do at this stage.

Prototype Design:
The prototype was then designed.

Usability Testing:
WAI Easy Checks:

  • Luminosity Contrast Ratio Check : 11.12:1
  • Passed at Level AAA

Pilot Test:

  • Corrected Prototype wires

No of Users Tested: 5

Testing:

  • User Driven Scenarios
  • Expectations
  • Overall Impression Survey
